Hi there, today I had an argument with my friend (I won the argument, mind you) about K-pop idols and their fans globally. So I told her that I feel that most K-pop stans are technically obsessed with the idols in a way western celebrities’ fans are not. I’ve seen fans but these people idolise their idols (probably the reasoning behind the term). Well she didn’t take that so well, probably because she’s one of the obsessed ones, but she said it was a deranged thing for me to say (needless to say, that cracked me up) I probably was not expected to find that funny but I did. But hear me out please, these so called K-pop stans want to dress like their idols, use them as their wallpapers, print their faces on their pillows, daydream about them, hell the only other group of people who are that obsessed are football fans and by God we can all agree that football fans are obsessed with star players. Or maybe like she said I don’t know what I’m talking about, although I don’t feel that way. I feel like, if I was that obsessed with someone I just might own it with my full chest because clearly that person deserves stans. There was a celebrity I really doted on in the past but she publicized some of her opinions that I am strongly against so my likeness for her died, but during the time it blossomed I never missed a day of evengelizing about her. So to all you K-pop stans out there own your obsession with your full chest and stop hiding behind weird titles.
Ahah, I remember where the argument started from, she raised the idea of crocheting a k-pop bag, and she said she initially wanted to crochet all the symbols of her favorite groups on it but it would be time consuming and stressful, so instead she figured she might just put only the group colors, and I (as a level headed human) said that it would be impossible for others to decipher the meaning of the bag without the aid of a long-winded explanation each time, she went on to say that she was doing it for herself and no one else(good luck with that darling) but that a true K-pop stan would be able to figure it out (just by seeing random colors??). Now what part of that does not scream obsession? If you see a colorful bag and immediately start reciting the name of k-pop groups like a faulty radio on repeat. I raised the argument that she would constantly have to explain but she disagreed so of course I sharpened the edge of my tongue and prepared for a verbal battle. Which I won triumphantly.
I really hope you enjoyed spending these few precious moments with me, if you did remember to like this post and share your thoughts with me in the comments section below. Çiao.
